Easy Immigration to Canada for Indian Families

Over one million Indians have successfully moved to Canada from major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, and Chennai. This trend is largely due to Canada’s strategic immigration policies, diverse range of immigration programs, and existing labor market needs, which make it easier for individuals and families to settle and thrive.

In Canada, Indians enjoy improved living and working conditions, including higher wages, job satisfaction, and opportunities for personal growth. Additionally, Canadian public healthcare and education systems are excellent, providing substantial benefits to families who are permanent residents or citizens.

Immigration to Canada: A 3-Step Guide for Indian Applicants

Step 1: Determine Your Eligibility

There are several routes to immigrate to Canada from India, each with its unique requirements and benefits. Whether it’s through family sponsorship (where a Canadian permanent resident or citizen sponsors your move) or obtaining a temporary work permit, two of the most direct and efficient methods are the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and the federal Express Entry system.

Provincial Nominee Program

Designed to meet specific labor market needs in 11 of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) offers tailored streams for individuals with different levels of expertise, ranging from unskilled and semi-skilled positions to highly skilled occupations. This program enables provinces and territories to select candidates who are suited to fill gaps in their local job markets.

Express Entry System

Introduced in 2015, the Express Entry system encompasses three key federal programs targeting skilled and experienced workers: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. It offers a streamlined processing time of six months or less for successful applicants, making it a favored route for immigration to Canada.

To begin, candidates create an online profile in the Express Entry system, which is then evaluated based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The profile scores are entered into the Express Entry pool, with top candidates receiving Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence during bi-weekly draws.

CRS Criteria Includes Points For:

Atlantic Immigration Pilot

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) facilitates the migration to the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. It includes three programs aimed at helping foreign nationals settle in these regions: Atlantic High-Skilled Program, Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program, and the Atlantic International Graduate Program.

To qualify, applicants must have a valid full-time job offer from a designated employer in one of the participating provinces. The offer must be for at least one year of continuous employment.

Student and Work Permits

Many Indians live in Canada on a temporary basis as students or workers, which can significantly boost their eligibility for permanent residency due to valuable Canadian work experience and education—the factors that contribute positively to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

A higher CRS score increases the probability of successfully immigrating to Canada from India. Additionally, studying and working in Canada opens up numerous immigration opportunities and visa options. For instance, international graduates can obtain Post-Graduate Work Permits to gain Canadian work experience. Students with specific qualifications, like those in medical fields, can apply for Provincial Nominee Programs in the province where they studied to secure permanent residency.

Student Permit

The study permit, issued by the IRCC, allows foreign nationals to study at Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) in Canada. Most international students require a study permit to pursue education in Canada.

Work Permit

Canada offers two primary types of work permits: open work permits, allowing employment in any job across Canada, and employer-specific work permits, which come with restrictions regarding the employer and duration of employment.
