by Kathy Watkins

A Destination for Immigration to Canada

Manitoba, a province in Canada, is celebrated for its diverse landscapes, featuring vast prairies, lush boreal forests, and the rugged Canadian Shield. This beautiful region boasts numerous national and provincial parks, such as Riding Mountain National Park, Whiteshell Provincial Park, and Churchill Provincial Park.

The province is also renowned for its lively arts and culture scene, with a wide array of museums, art galleries, and festivals year-round. Manitoba offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, and skiing. Rich in history, the province has a unique cultural identity that appeals to many.

Strategically situated in the heart of North America, Manitoba and its capital, Winnipeg, serve as a vital transportation and trade hub, thanks to their location along the continent’s North-South trade corridor. Winnipeg provides excellent connectivity through rail, road, sea, and air links to the rest of the continent and beyond.

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)

Known as the “Land of 100,000 Lakes,” Manitoba has a diverse economy driven by sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, hydroelectric power, and mining. Many newcomers find their way to this province through the Manitoba Provincial Nomination Program (MPNP), a popular immigration pathway. The province’s economy is heavily reliant on its natural resources, with agriculture playing a pivotal role. Immigrants are drawn to Manitoba for its welcoming farming communities, stable job market, and stunning landscapes.

Through the MPNP, individuals with the skills and experience in demand by the province can be awarded a Manitoba Provincial Nomination Certificate, which significantly expedites the immigration process for those seeking to establish their new lives in Canada.

For Individuals Educated in Manitoba

International Student Pathway

Immigration to Canada offers a streamlined process for international graduates from Manitoba’s post-secondary institutions through the International Student Pathway. This pathway caters to those aiming for long-term employment in fields where there is a demand. It comprises three routes: the Career Employment Route, the Graduate Internship Route, and the Student Entrepreneur Route.

The Career Employment Route is designed to help Manitoba-educated international students secure employment nominations in sectors facing skill shortages. If you’ve graduated from a university or college in Manitoba and have a valid job offer from a local employer, you may be eligible to apply to the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) under this pathway.

If you completed your studies in a different Canadian province or territory, or if your occupation is not currently in demand, you might still qualify to apply through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream.

Requirements for the Career Employment Pathway:

Completed at least one year’s duration at a post-secondary institution;
Have a minimum language score of 7 in the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de Compétence Linguistique Canadiens (NCLC);
Have a job offer from a valid Manitoban employer for a contract that lasts for a minimum of one year and matches an in-demand job;
Are currently employed in the province;
Have sufficient funds that match the Low Income Cut Off requirements for six months or are employed in a full-time position in the province;
Have applied to the program while living in the province;
Have the intention to stay in the province after nomination and provide a Career Employment Plan to show your future career path in the province; and
Have met all of the requirements for the MPNP

If you’ve successfully completed a bridging course and obtained the initial system certification from a regulatory authority, you won’t require a job offer from an employer in Manitoba.

For individuals holding a Doctoral or Master’s degree, the Graduate Internship Pathway offers an excellent opportunity. This pathway is tailored for quicker processing of provincial nominations for those who can inject innovation into Manitoba’s economy.

Graduates who have participated in the Mitacs Accelerate or Elevate internships are eligible to directly apply to the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) upon graduation, without the necessity of a job offer.

It’s important to schedule an information session with the Government of Manitoba to gain further insights into the program. Ensure this session is booked prior to submitting your Expression of Interest (EOI) to the MPNP.

Requirements for the Graduate Internship Pathway:

Have completed a Master’s or Doctoral program in Manitoba that lasted at least three years;
Have scored at least a seven on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de Compétence Linguistique Canadiens (NCLC);
Have completed an internship under either Mitacs Elevate or Accelerate in an eligible industry;
Have sufficient funds to meet the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) for six months or have a current job in Manitoba in your current field of study in a permanent position;
Have applied for the pathway while living in the province;
Have the intention to live in the province after receiving a nomination and supply a Career Employment Plan to show your plans for future employment in the province; and
Have met all of the requirements for the MPNP

FAQ
How does the Manitoba PNP work?

To immigrate via the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP), you begin by submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI). This involves completing an online questionnaire. You'll receive a score based on your responses.

Candidates with the highest scores may receive invitations to apply to the MPNP.

If your application is successful, Manitoba will issue you a provincial nomination. You can use this nomination to apply for permanent residency with the Canadian federal government, including for your family. If you're an Express Entry candidate, the process can be completed through that system.

Those interested in moving to Manitoba through a Business Investor stream might need to follow additional procedures.
