Immigration to Canada is pleased to introduce the new IMP+ work permit, also known as the Programme de mobilité internationale plus (PMI+) in French. This initiative aims to shorten the waiting period for applicants and their families planning to settle and work in Canada.
Traditionally, foreign skilled workers chosen by Quebec must wait for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to approve their permanent residence application before relocating to Quebec. However, with the IMP+ work permit, selected applicants with a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) who currently live abroad can move to Quebec, start working, and begin settling in while waiting for their permanent residency approval.
Successful IMP+ applicants will receive a three-year open work permit enabling them to work for nearly any employer in Quebec. Please note, this work permit is specific to Quebec, preventing employment in other Canadian provinces. Accompanying family members are also eligible for a work permit or study permit.
For the year 2022, the IMP+ program has a cap of 14,700 applications, accounting for those who have obtained CSQs in previous years and are eligible. Starting in 2023, this annual cap will be established at 7,350 applicants per year.
Discover a smoother path to settling in Canada with Immigration to Canada’s IMP+ work permit, designed for skilled workers and their families eager to make Quebec their new home.
